10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning is not always fun for most of us. But it has to be done. As the holidays and winter end and we begin looking forward to spring, something within us pushes us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and getting rid of things we’ve collected over the winter months.
But who says spring cleaning is only for the inside of your home?
The outside of your home could likely use a little tidying up after a cold, dreary winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will improve the appearance of your home in Tamarac, and, even more important, will offer much-needed care and maintenance that will save you a lot of money in years to come.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the ideal time to clean out your gutters, because so many of leaves and debris accumulated during the fall and winter months. The pollen count is at its highest during spring, making a huge mess in your gutters if they are not cleaned.
Plus, bugs and critters are looking for places to build homes during spring, so getting your gutters cleaned out will help to prevent an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside and outside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew and rust stains and returning them to a like-new appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Exterior window cleaning is necessary for spring cleaning. First floor windows shouldn’t give you much of a problem, but any second and third floor windows will be a bit trickier to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is a hard chore, and it will need a lot of tools, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your home’s windows is the perfect solution to get the panes and the outer frame nice and clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You aren’t going to want clean gutters and clean windows on a dirty home. That means you will want to pressure wash your home too!
Pressure washing is fast, effective and doesn’t cost too much. You can clean your home, patio furniture, patios, porches and walkways with very little effort. It will eliminate dirt and mud so they will not stain your home, and you can also prevent the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your driveway and giving it a deep cleaning may seem counter-productive because you will still be driving on it, but actually, a clean, well-cared for driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.
A professional pressure washing service will do wonders for driveway cleaning, whether it’s pavement, asphalt, stone or another material. Also, think about adding a gravel border to your driveway to really make it pop!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your patio gets the most use throughout the summer months, so it is easy to overlook it during the winter when you are not doing a lot of outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio might be in pretty bad shape the first time you go onto it in spring.
Soap and water – and a little muscle – can sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or mildew, you might need to think about a more aggressive option, like power washing, to ensure that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer.
6. Roof Cleaning
Algae and moss are typical roof issues in Tamarac. While you’re cleaning the outside of your home, it’s a great time to clean your roof as well, but you will need to use a different process than what you use for most of your home’s exterior cleaning.
If you start to notice streaks on your roof, algae is probably the cause. Moss is typically obvious, too. These contaminants cannot be scrubbed off of shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof of your home. Both of these methods will ruin the shingles on your roof.
The best course of action for roof cleaning is to spray the shingles with a half-bleach, half-water mixture and then leave it be. This mixture will eliminate any organisms on your roof without reducing its lifespan.
7. Clean up the Front
The front of your home is probably what most people see, so make the best impression you can for visitors and for yourself! Coming home to a beautiful exterior will instantly improve your day, and it will even encourage you to spend more time outdoors.
You can clean your front porch with detergent and water or a good pressure wash. Clean cobwebs and mud off of the front door, and consider painting it a new color for a really bright look! Clean forgotten areas including the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Outdoor Tools
You will soon be spending more time outside, so spring is an excellent time to organize the things you will need for outdoor work.
Gardening tools as well as pool care equipment should all have a specific area outside your home – somewhere that it is safe from weather and out of sight so it is not a constant eyesore. Spending the time to organize in the spring allows you to enjoy the outside of your home so much more during the time of year that you are going to spend the most time outdoors.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your lawn, trees and bushes can make a big impact on the look of your home.
Get rid of weeds around the exterior of your flower beds and walkways, till up places where you might be planting later on and sweep off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed poison to make lawn maintenance easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After being unused for months, your gas or charcoal grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are unappetizing, but they can also make you and your family ill.
Wipe it down to remove ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber (so you don’t leave behind particles that can get into food) and a basic detergent or degreaser.
You can probably finish all of these projects over the course of a few weekends but it will be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call! Tamarac Pressure Washing offers professional home exterior cleaning services for driveway cleaning, patio cleaning, pressure washing, roof cleaning and more!
